River of Tulips Painting Revisited
‘River of Tulips’ started as a 16 x 10″ (41 x 25 cm) egg tempera painting. I spent many hours of labor over the details of the tulips. But I remained unhappy with the result. So I took a photograph of the painting and, last week, painted over it digitally until I arrived at a painting that now conveys the idea I originally had in mind.
I could easily paint on the original egg tempera painting with egg tempera paint until I arrived at the result you see here. Maybe one day I will!
Here’s the original egg tempera painting of ‘River of Tulips’:
I can see merits in both versions of the painting. Which one do you like best, and why? I’d love to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

It’s hard to pick one over the other, as you say both has its merits. But, I do like the darker one a bit more simply because how it makes the flowers stand out. Almost like a comet tail across the sky.
I know I mentioned the kestrels nest I found and I want to give an update. When I finally got to go there I found the nest on the ground and the birds were gone. Worst of all is that it seems as if it’s people that caused the damage and not nature.
Summer seems to have finally found us it’s sunny, quite warm and the lilacs are blooming.
I hope you and Tony are doing well and are having a good time. =)

Hi Sanna,
I also like the darker tulip painting for the same reason.
Oh what a shame about the kestrel nest. That must have been very disappointing.
We’re doing well. Summer comes here for a few days and then it turns mighty cold, even within a few hours! An odd summer, but v pretty and the air is clear and fresh!
